In our mountainous region you will find all kinds of routes available. Don’t have your bike? Vélo-Coudres offers you all kinds of bikes, even quadricycles that can accommodate up to six adults and two children! Take a tour of L’Isle-aux-Coudres, stopping at the Bouchard bakery, the Moulins de l’Isle-aux-Coudres-Floor milling Economusée, the Cidrerie et Vergers Pedneault, the Auberge La Fascine, the Charlotte! workshop-boutique, all along the banks of the St. Lawrence River. Why not explore the Baie-Saint-Paul valley, setting off with your bike aboard the Train de Charlevoix? Set your own pace, no need to break records! For mountain biking enthusiasts, the trails of Camping Le Genévrier or Saint-Urbain should capture your interest.
In terms of trails, there is something for all levels. Hike up in Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie or in Parc national Grands-Jardins, Baie-des-Rochers trails, or the various municipalities. You will discover some of Charlevoix’s best kept secrets! If you are a thrill-seeker, Les Palissades de Charlevoix is known for its zip lines, via ferrata and various trails.
For saltwater sailors, Croisière AML reveals the marine world by cruise ship or Zodiac in the heart of Saguenay-St. Lawrence Marine Park. Want to be closer to water? Try kite surfing or paddle boarding with accredited instructors at Suroît Aventures. For freshwater sailors, Katabatik offers white water kayak adventures on the Rivière du Gouffre. Why not get on the Bateau-Mouche Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie ? For those who prefer to stay on land, but who like to look out to sea, you can observe marine mammals from the shore at the Cap-de-Bon-Désir and Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Centers.
For the pleasure of your ears, don’t miss the music festival Le Festif! in Baie-Saint-Paul, which takes place in July and is a great opportunity to discover emerging artists. Let’s not forget the Domaine Forget International Festival with its Sunday morning musical brunches, Concert-Apéro, jazz evenings, dances and large orchestras presented throughout the summer. For the pleasure of your eyes, browse the galleries presenting the vision of different artists: Boutique Charlevoix, Art Gallery Au P’tit Bonheur, Art Gallery 500 Richelieu. Better yet, sit at the bottom or top of the bluff at Domaine Frais Air and watch the time go by. The St. Lawrence River is ever changing.
In our rocky region, local products are unmatched and essentially equate to tasting happiness. Charlevoix is full of chefs and producers making the region a renowned gourmet destination. Follow “La Route des Saveurs” and taste it all on the deck of your chalet! Try our favorites: marinated oyster mushrooms from Champignons Charlevoix , beers and spirits from Menaud and ice cream from Fromagerie St-Fidèle (which seems to be the best in the region)!
“Le Circuit des 7 Lieux” offers a memorable cultural experience with museums, economuseums and places of interpretation. Get yourself immersed in the know-how, the historical heritage and artistic works of Charlevoix.
Park in the Saint-Étienne street area, next to the La Malbaie bridge (2.5 km from Domaine Frais Air). On this street, treat yourself to a regional souvenir at the Boutique Charlevoix or a something special at La Bigarrure, enjoy an ice cream at the new chocolate factory or a cocktail at Harvey Smoked Meat. On Saturday mornings, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., take advantage of the Farmer’s Market in the church parking lot. Just a three-minute walk away is the famous bakery Pains d’Exclamation! and the municipal library. The view of the St. Lawrence River from the library is simply magnificent and one can also enjoy the free exhibitions the library has to offer. Cross the boulevard and continue your journey along the River on the bicycle path or on the sand, depending on the tides. Once you arrive at the corner of Café Chez-Nous, continue on the bike path or on rue Richelieu to make a restaurant stop. In any case, you will end up at the Musée de Charlevoix and at the Grande Place, a wonderful multifunctional park. Along the River, discover the Pointe-au-Pic pier, the Charlevoix Train station, a few shops and restaurants. At the end of rue du Quai, a large staircase leads to the Casino de Charlevoix and the Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu. The return trip is around 9 km. Come see us at the reception, we will give you a map of the route. In season, shuttles and bicycle rental are available to travel this route.
Don’t limit yourself to these suggested activities. There are so many other possibilities: play golf on the most beautiful course in North America at Fairmont Le Manoir Richelieu, observe black bears and beavers at Domaine Le Pic-Bois, fish at the Pointe-au-Pic or in the Malbaie River, or look at the stars in a national park with a star finder near a fire, breathe through your nose, take the time to joke around (“Chouenner”) with locals…
